Incident Archive
The complete set of public incident records Tarline collects for the California coast, from four independent sources: NOAA IncidentNews case pages, raw National Response Center caller reports, satellite oil-signature detections, and California Spill Watch response notices. Search the text, narrow to one source, and page through the whole history.
Every row here is a source report, not a confirmed release. National Response Center entries in particular are self-reported by callers with no agency verification step, satellite detections are possible signatures rather than sampled oil, and a report saying nothing about a beach is not evidence that the beach was clean. Follow the link on a row and read the original record before citing it.

/// NOAA/nesdis mpsr issued for: pacific /// Possible, unconfirmed oil was observed in satellite imagery. Report date: 07-05-2025 Report time: 0145 utc Region: pacific Sub region: california Area/block: northern california 7104 Image date: 07-04-2025 Image time: 1857 utc Data source: landsat8 Mode: multispectral Resolution: 30 meter Location: 38°57'32" n/125°50'28" w Area: 6.72 square kilometers Confidence: high Report map/gis files: https://www.ospo.NOAA.gov/products/ocean/marinepollution/ Remarks: possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The oil slicks showed dark and rainbow color against the ocean background in this optical imagery, and had clear edges at the wide end. This oil anomaly was possibly a result of vessel bilge dump, and it was composed of multiple segments that were separated in various distances along nnw to sse direction. The leaking source was out of the imagery boundary at the sensing time, therefore the point source was set where the oil slick was last observed within the imagery. The surface wind at the imagery time was about 8 knots from the east. The total length of the oil slick segments was 16.15 nmi, and the widest section was about 0.61 nmi. Uncertainties: the entire oil slick size could not be identified since it went beyond the boundary. Caller states that while driving through a commercial parking lot area, a box truck caught a telephone line which brought two powerline poles and four transformers down. One transformer discharged approx 10 gallons of non-pcb mineral oil to the pavement which caused less than 1 gallon to enter a nearby storm drain; storm drain pipes have not been compromised. The remaining three transformers have slowly leaked a small (but unknown amount) to land. All mineral oil involved has been confirmed to be non-pcb.
